Factors in Calculation

Having the following information in advance will be helpful when using our calculator tool.

Polymer Type

Each of our polymer films has unique properties, so it’s important to choose a material with the right features for your specific needs. Our options include:

  • Polyester (PET): Lightweight, colorless, flexible, resists solvents and alcohol, good moisture barrier
  • Polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG): High durability, good manufacturability
  • Polypropylene (PP): Flexible, high durability
  • High-impact polystyrene (HIPS): Recyclable, high workability, good moisture barrier

Width and Gauge

Film width is the measure of how broad the film is perpendicular to its length.  It’s important to choose film that is slightly wider than the packages it will wrap, as this ensures a long enough cross direction measurement to have a trim edge. Gauge, or mil thickness, is how thick the plastic film is. Thicker films have a higher gauge, and thinner films have a lower gauge. One mil equals 0.001 inches, so a 125 gauge film, for example, would be 0.125 inches thick.

Unit of Measurement

When you’re determining how much film you need, consider the length in feet or the weight in pounds. Our calculator provides these two measurement standards.

Using our roll calculator can help you quickly and accurately estimate the amount of film you need for specific applications. Contact us today to learn more about the different films we provide or request a quote with your new film length or weight amount.
